WGC CA Championship - Player Picks
Doral hosts the World Golf Championship series this week, the CA Championship. The 18th hole at Doral, the Blue Monster, ranked as the number one most difficult hole on tour last year. But the big picture reveals this course is not all that difficult for tour caliber players. At only 7200 yards driving distance is hardly a stat worth considering this week.
The influencing factor this week may be the weather. Wind and rain are expected to find its way into Florida and will likely frustrate some players. If the wind does play a factor pros that can hold and hit greens will blow past the competition on their way up the leader board.
The field is set at 68 and all players will play every round without a cut in place. 48 of those are the world’s top ranked and the remaining selected from past events and top spots in world wide tours. The best of the best in a four day romp. With so many star players represented filtering down to ten players is at best difficult, but are as follows:
- Ian Poulter – He made my top ten at the last WGC event and figures to play well again.
- Paul Casey – How could you not be impressed with his Sunday play at the Honda Classic.
- Camilo Villegas – The guy is for real but two in a row is unlikely.
- Geoff Ogilvy – Perhaps not a win here but does make my top ten.
- Zach Johnson – Zach is due, perhaps for a win, and moves into my top ten.
- Ben Crane – Ben will remind us all this week that he won the Farmers Insurance Open.
- Retief Goosen – A player that will not wilt in tough conditions gets the nod this week.
- Nick Watney – Nick’s game is solid and is my replacement for Allenby.
- Sergio Garcia - Sergio's game can handle this stage.
- Rory Mcilroy – If he does not finish better than Stewart Cink I will regret this pick.
Good Luck!

FGL Entry Forms are Published
Entry forms for this week's event, the World Golf Championship (WGC) CA Championship are published.
Normally the forms are published the Sunday before that week's event however this week was delayed until the final field of 68 was determined.
That is less than two days to make your PGA player picks for this tournament. Hopefully that is enough time for everyone and we have a good turnout.
I'l be posting my picks later today so check back here for my top ten. After last week's success I should quit making picks while I'm on top but being a glutton for punishment I will continue the process each week. Eventually I might become good at it, or not.
Good Luck,

Player Picks for The Honda Classic
The Honda Classic - Entry Forms Open
Entry forms for this week's Fantasy Golf League event, The Honda Classic, are published. Users can submit their player picks until Thursday at 6:00 AM EST when the forms will close.
The front tee is open for users that want to play our format but not ready to compete in the cash prize event. A new user gets a feel of how events are conducted without risking an entry fee. Front tee winners are awarded an Annual Membership ($10 value). Annual members can compete against other users from the back tee for a cash prize.
A new event starts every week so new users can create accounts and start playing right away. This also means that users that want to take a week off from playing are allowed without any penalty. Skip a week and resume play the following; this format is very accommodating that way. Our league was designed with flexibility and not around season, or partial season commitments.
Look back to the blog after the conclusion of the Waste Management Phoenix Open for this week's front and back tee winners. Official results are posted in the fantasy golf league results menu found in the left sidebar.
Weekly picks are usually posted sometime Tuesday. These picks are notoriously poor selections and offer nothing more than a few minutes of entertainment for our readers, but I have fun making them.
Good Luck!

Waste Management Phoenix Open FGL Picks
Final stop for the west coast swing hosts the biggest party in golf. Gone are the old days of the GGO (Greater Greensboro Open) where all this party golf started. The modern day venue is Phoenix and this year a new sponsor is on board for the party which has a golf tournament going on, the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
The desert is a special place for golf. There is beauty too be found if you look hard enough between the rock, sand and cacti. The wide open scenery and occasional mountain top create the unique backdrop these party goers know and love.
Does it take a special kind of player capable of coexisting amongst the rowdies in the valley of the sun? I believe so and find the young guns favored this week as they are not that far removed from their own college days and college ways. The one question is will this giant stage distract or energize these guys? Does open criticism bother their concentration? For their sake I hope not because they will hear things that is not for the faint of heart.
For this week I go with picks that should not surprise. The one surprise pick I did have did not get in as an alternate; Alex Prugh. Watch this guy for something big in the coming weeks. I think he is that good.
My top five picks for this week are:
Tim Clark
Brian Gay
J.P. Hayes
J.B. Holmes
Zach Johnson
Wait, what about Phil Michelson, Steve Stricker, Stewart Cink, Robert Allenby…? That is what makes this pick five format so difficult.
Obviously those are all solid, proven picks, but because there is no limit set on players in our format you can ride who’s hot or jump onto fast risers. In fact I may just go with Joe Durant who finished 2nd in Mexico last week and is hot as the desert sun right now.
My advice is doing your own research. If you look into past posts my track record is not so hot. But I think this is my breakout week…, umm, sure it is.
Good Luck,

Last week’s event the Accenture Match Play Championship ended better than expected. At first I worried that everyone’s picks would get bounced after the second day and we would all sit around wondering what just happened. One of the mistakes made was not letting the entrants know this was a bracket style elimination tournament. It was a bad assumption on my part this was known. I will do a better job of keeping everyone informed of any tournament nuances.
When the season schedule was set I was torn deciding which tournament to use for that particular week. I think the event came off well enough and consequently do not regret choosing the Accenture Match Play event.
Multiple venues occur three more times during the season. Right now I intend to run events for World Golf Championship at Doral March 8-14, the Open Championship at St. Andrews on July 12-18, and WGC – Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, OH Aug 2-8. If a good enough reason comes up that change’s my mind I will let you know. Leave your opinion in a comment below.
Working on my picks for this week and hope to get them pushed out in another hour or so.

Accenture Match Play Championship - User Picks
User picks for this week's event are posted to the fantasy golf league navigation block in the left sidebar.
I think we are in for a wild one. A field of sixty four, in four brackets, contesting over five days, for a single winner. Does it get any more exciting than this? What a great format for a golf tournament.
Match play is a grind and certainly no different for these guys. A format which allows a sleeper to emerge victorious and the possibility of greats in the game humbled.
We have three entrants in the front tee area and also three in the back tee. $30 is up for grabs on the back tee.
Good Luck!
